1st Grade Program
We are proud to offer First Grade In-Class Learning this year at SCC! We are blessed to have Ms. Sami lead this program as our First Grade teacher. She has a sincere love and passion for teaching children. She played soccer at Point Loma Nazarene where she graduated with a BA in Teacher Education and a CA Multiple Subjects Teaching credential. Sami has been a substitute teacher at SCC for over a year and she worked in the OVSD for over a year and a half. When she is not teaching at SCC, or coaching club soccer, she loves to spend time with her husband and family. First Grade is a journey into the wonderful world of reading and writing. We want your children to be equipped with strong skills in phonics, grammar, reading comprehension and fluency and be strong independent and lifelong readers. Writer’s Workshop will be a daily practice with guided lessons and individualized instruction into sentence and paragraph narrative, informative and opinion writing. We will build strong foundations in core math skills and offer hands-on manipulative games and technology based Math programs. In addition, we will offer instruction in science, socials studies, PE, Art Masters, cooking chapel and more. We will have two instructors, one teacher and one aide in the classroom in the morning, to assist students to log in to a Virtual Academy, assist in technology support, and to offer support in small learning groups. Our goal is to bring top notch First Grade Instructional learning to life in-class and have students on the computer screen as minimally as possible. We will request OVSD put all registered students seeking support from SCC be grouped together and I have asked for further clarification on the Virtual Academy guidelines (in regards to the amount of live interactive instruction there will be each day). If chrome books are available, we would ask they bring them to SCC to make the virtual experience as easy, readily available and user friendly as possible. More detailed information will be provided on specific curriculum programs, Virtual Learning support guidelines and we will offer a Parent In-Person Back to School Night in early September.
